New Book Sheds Light on 6G and Future Digital Services

Researchers from Finland, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Austria released an open-access book diving into 6G and the future of digital services. The open-access publication is edited by Petri Ahokangas (6G Flagship and Oulu University) and Annabeth Aagaard (Aarhus University).

“The Changing World of Mobile Communications: 5G, 6G and the Future of Digital Services” is organised in four parts – Mapping the Mobile Communications Context, Value Creation and Capture in Future Mobile Communications, Regulatory and National Considerations, and Implications for the Future.

In its 350 pages, the publication offers a comprehensive overview of the evolution of mobile network technologies, navigating through subjects such as business models for 6G, value creation, sustainability, regulations in Europe, and other topics.

“When writing, our aim was to balance practicality and vision based on the insights of the whole team. I hope this book has its input on the industry and that our work contributes to the development of future 6G,” said Ahokangas in a media statement.

The book is the result of research and international collaboration co-authored by Petri Ahokangas, Annabeth Aagaard, Marja Matinmikko-Blue, Seppo Yrjölä, Irina Atkova, Marika Iivari, Oxana Gisca, Pia Hurmelinna-Laukkanen and Ahmad Arslan from the University of Oulu, Jillian Gordon from Glasgow University, Paul Timmers from Oxford University, and Georg Serentschy from Serentschy Advisory.

“This book summarises the key tools and findings from our long-term multi-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder collaboration,” added Marja Matinmikko-Blue of the University of Oulu’s 6G Flagship and Infotech.

The title is published by Palgrave Macmillan and is free to download.
