Worldwide online searches for 6G have grown in recent years, according to data gathered by Google following a 6GWorld™ request. The numbers indicate that 5G and 6G have been trending as the development of the next generation of wireless communication has entered the conversation.
Statistics show that Google searches for 6G increased by 80% in the past five years, while queries for the same term grew by 260% in 2020 compared to 2010.
The tech giant has also forecast that 6G will experience a jump in searches in the coming days, according to data retrieved from Google’s platform Google Trends. The main reason behind the growth is reportedly Huawei’s effort – together with China Mobile and an unknown Chinese space firm – to launch two satellites that would, among other activities, verify 6G network technologies.
Also according to Google Trends’ data, China is the country where there has been the most interest for 6G queries in the past 12 months, followed by Taiwan, Cuba, Hong Kong, and South Korea.
6G searches off to a good start
During 2021, interest in 6G has jumped 98% compared to 2020. The top five search terms are all related to networks – 6G, 5G, 6G technology, 6G network, and 6G mobile have been the most Googled terms so far.
When it comes to the countries where these keywords have generated the most interest in 2021, little has changed: China, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Norway lead the list.
What about 5G?
Queries for 5G have recorded an even better performance, mainly because of its rollout across the globe during 2019 and 2020.
According to Google’s data, searches for 5G have climbed 640% in the past five years. Compared to 2010, the growth is even higher: a staggering 2080%
