xTechOverwatch Competition Seeks Autonomous Innovations for U.S. Army

The U.S. Army’s xTechOverwatch competition invites small businesses to develop autonomous technologies, offering $1 million in prizes and up to $40 million in potential contracts.

On April 2, 2025, the U.S. Army launched xTechOverwatch, a competition aimed at enhancing autonomous capabilities in military operations. Organized by the Army xTech Program in collaboration with the Army Futures Command, the initiative seeks innovative solutions from U.S.-based small businesses specializing in artificial intelligence, robotics, and sensor technologies.

The competition focuses on developing advanced unmanned systems, including aerial and ground vehicles, as well as sensor networks. These technologies are intended to improve situational awareness and operational efficiency in complex terrains. Participants will undergo a multi-phase selection process, starting with the submission of concept white papers by May 21, 2025.

Up to 40 finalists will be chosen to receive $15,000 each and will present their solutions at the Army Human Machine Integration Summit in October 2025. Subsequently, up to 20 winners will be awarded an additional $20,000 and invited to submit proposals for Direct to Phase II Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contracts, potentially securing up to $2 million each.
