Tiami Networks Secures $1.9M Army Contract to Advance 5G Non-Terrestrial Communications

Tiami Networks has been awarded a $1.9 million U.S. Army contract to prototype secure 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) capabilities for Indo-Pacific operations.

Tiami Networks, a U.S.-based innovator in secure wireless solutions, has received a $1.9 million contract from the U.S. Army ASA(ALT) to prototype and demonstrate resilient 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) communications. The announcement was shared by Amitav Mukherjee, CEO and Founder of Tiami Networks, in a LinkedIn post celebrating the achievement and the engineering team behind it.

The effort focuses on delivering cybersecure, flexible connectivity to Army end users operating in the Indo-Pacific—a region marked by geographic complexity and increasing strategic importance. With this contract, Tiami will work to demonstrate the viability of secure 5G NTN solutions that can operate across vast, infrastructure-sparse environments where traditional terrestrial networks fall short.

This award reflects the growing role of non-terrestrial communications in both defense and commercial sectors. NTNs—enabled by satellites, high-altitude platforms, and airborne systems—are increasingly viewed as critical for resilient, always-on connectivity in contested or denied environments.

The U.S. Army’s investment also signals a broader trend in defense technology acquisition: tapping into agile, innovative private companies to meet emerging mission needs. For the broader 6G and connectivity community, the project underscores the rising strategic relevance of NTN and its implications for secure, global communications architectures.

As 5G continues to evolve toward 6G, dual-use innovation like this will likely shape both defense deployments and next-generation standards.
