UK-based wireless technology company AccelerComm has raised $15 million in funding to expand its work on 5G solutions for satellite networks, aiming to accelerate the delivery of universal mobile coverage via space-based infrastructure.
Funding Details
The investment round was led by IP Group, including its Parkwalk and Hostplus funds, with backing from IQ Capital, Swisscom Ventures, and Bloc Ventures. The capital will be used to further develop and accelerate deployments of the company’s 5G satellite communications products and technology that enable Direct-to-Device (D2D) communications between phone handsets and space-based satellite networks.
Leadership Appointment
Alongside the funding, AccelerComm announced the appointment of David Helfgott as CEO. Helfgott brings over 20 years of leadership experience across wireless and satellite communications markets. In his new role, he will be responsible for accelerating customer and partner traction in the US and globally for AccelerComm’s technology. Previously, he held positions as CEO at SmartSky Networks and leadership roles at Phasor, Inmarsat Government, DataPath Inc, and SES Government.
